Netflix to invest in original series from Nigeria

Netflix has now officially landed in Nigeria and announced today that it is investing more into Nigerian original content. Akin Omotoso, Daniel Oriahi and CJ Obasi have already been given the greenlight to direct a six-part series starring Kate Henshaw and Ade Laoye. Not yet titled, the series will take place in modern-day Lagos and tells the story of a goddess reincarnated as a woman names Kemi to avenge her sister’s death.

Is Netflix’s arrival in Nigeria good or bad for the industry? Will this help content makers improve and hone their craft or will this reverse the progress that was being made as we go back to pushing quantity over quality?
